  • Marathon and ultra-distance runners focused purely on steady-state pace — the direct performance case is weak, and the extra water-retention bodyweight is a genuine tradeoff to weigh against the recovery and interval-training benefits.
  • Anyone doing interval work, hill repeats, or mixed training alongside distance running — the phosphagen-system benefit applies directly to those sessions, even if it doesn't touch your long runs.
