What Bear Balanced gets right
Three things, and they are not small.
It is genuinely sugar-free. Across the nine brands we track, this is rare. Create, Beast Bites, Force Factor and most of the rest are built on cane sugar or tapioca syrup. If you are avoiding sugar for any reason — diabetes management, keto, dental, or simple preference — the field narrows to almost nothing, and Bear Balanced is in it.
It states gluten-free. Creatine monohydrate cannot contain gluten in the first place, as we explain in our piece on that question, but gummies are a compound product and the binders and coatings are where a risk could sit. A brand stating gluten-free is making a claim about the finished product, which is the claim that matters for coeliac disease.
It uses Creapure. Creapure is a German-manufactured creatine monohydrate with published purity specifications, including numeric ceilings for dicyandiamide and dihydrotriazine — the two manufacturing residues we cover in our impurities piece. Most gummy brands do not tell you where their raw creatine comes from at all.
The dose and the price
A serving is 3.5 g, not 5 g. That is 70% of the standard maintenance dose, and it is the lowest full-serving figure of any brand we price. To reach 5 g you would need a little over four gummies, which means a 90-gummy pack lasts about 21 days rather than 30. At list price that pushes the real cost to roughly $2.86 per 5 g — about double Create's $1.42, and more than double Beast Bites.
The 4-month bundle brings it down to $40.80 a month, or about $1.94 per 5 g. That is the fairest number to quote and it is still the most expensive creatine per gram in our set. You are paying a premium for sugar-free, for Creapure, and for the L-theanine and L-tyrosine in the Creatine+ formulation.
Whether those added aminos are worth anything is a separate question. L-theanine has reasonable evidence for calm focus at 100–200 mg; L-tyrosine has thinner support. Bear Balanced does not publish per-serving amounts where a shopper can see them, so we cannot tell you whether the doses are meaningful or decorative.
The certification gap
Bear Balanced does not appear in the NSF Certified for Sport registry, and we found no published independent assay of its creatine content. Creapure as a raw ingredient has its own purity documentation, but that documents the powder going in, not the gummy coming out — and gummies are precisely where creatine degrades, because they are made with water and heat. For a tested athlete this is disqualifying on its own; for everyone else it is one more unverified claim in a category with a poor testing record.
How to decide
- Sugar-free is non-negotiable for you. Bear Balanced, and budget for the price. Very little else in the category qualifies.
- Coeliac disease. Bear Balanced states gluten-free on the finished product; Create does not carry that claim. Read the current label before you buy either.
- You are drug-tested. Create. Bear Balanced has no NSF listing.
- You want the most creatine per dollar. Neither is the answer — see what gummies should actually cost. Between these two it is Create, by roughly half.
What we actually recommend
These products do not overlap much. If you need sugar-free, our price-per-gram criterion simply does not apply to you, and Bear Balanced wins by default because so little else qualifies. If you do not need sugar-free, Create costs half as much per gram, has 25 flavours in the NSF registry, and is the only gummy here with a recent independent measurement that came in above its own label.
